CAREER: BRICKS in your BRIEFCASE ... Part 2

Taking the bricks out of your briefcase

No one travels a long distance without a luggage; definitely you are expected to pack for your journey depending on your route, distance and destination. Of course, the content of our cases are different and this is a factor of what you consider important for your journey and what you think is not necessary. Every milestone is arrived at with a lot of determination and effort. It’s not an easy journey for anyone.

However, this interesting and necessary journey could perhaps be made easier if you choose to travel light. A man travelling with a back-pack or a knapsack will find the journey relatively easier than a man with several suit cases. Travelling light makes the journey relatively easier less stressful and at times faster.

Many today on their career journeys carry so much baggage and luggage hence; they are weighed down and burdened to a point of fatigue and stagnation. The briefcase becomes too heavy for them to carry alone then they begin to look at other travellers for help, favours and assists.

When they don’t get these support, they become upset, grumpy and critical of others on this journey. To be more precise, we are talking about emotional and psychological weights that make you less productive and mentally lump. Issues that weigh you down, stress you to pieces and snuff out the zeal and passion in you. Mental weights, mental pressures and psychological turmoil that paralyze your creativity, initiative and capacity.

Let us share some of these bricks in your briefcase

BRICK ONE: The Opinion of people you love and respect (click to read)

BRICK TWO: Self-pity (click to read)

BRICK THREE: Laziness
Sitting pretty and expecting everything to fall right into place for you is a pipe dream. Nothing really comes to you until you go for it, and if by error you gain a benefit, you can’t handle it, you can’t manage it and you can’t keep it because you are not hard working enough to deliver on the required responsibility.

Laziness is a terrible weakness. It takes the pride, esteem, worth and self-appreciation out of you. you lose value and respect of people close and working with you.

Nothing worthwhile comes out of being lazy. A lazy person cannot carry the lightest suitcase on his career journey. You need to drop the brick. Rise up today and be diligent. A lazy person cannot carry the lightest suitcase on his career journey.

Don’t be shoddy and sloppy about work; be smart neat and fast. Drop that brick of laziness.

BRICK FOUR: Indiscipline
Indiscipline by my definition is lack of self-control; where your fleshy desires overrule your mind and right thinking. No matter how intelligent, creative and hardworking you are, if you lack discipline, the ability to control yourself, you may destroy all you have and can achieve in career.

You must make intelligent decisions and stick by it even when it’s not convenient and difficult. Your choices and actions must be guided by expected outcomes not ease or convenience.

Discipline is self-control. The power and will to say NO to flirting pleasures with destructive and dangerous outcomes; the ability to resist temptations in your career journey such as dishonesty, cheating, stealing, sexual harassment, blackmail, treachery, bribery and corruption and all the likes.

Doing the right things always put your mind at rest and avails you a good conscience.
Be disciplined, don’t be carried away by pleasures, take this brick too out of your briefcase
