Challenging your status quo

In life, creating any desired change starts with the willingness to challenge existing status quo. And change often fails when it is not understood.

Change comes alive when it is first accepted by the individual from within, before it can manifest without. You cannot change anything without first changing
your mind.

Personal change can only happen if and only if a person wants to change; especially from the mind. This is why it is mostly said that leaders can only change any status quo if they first start with themselves. Note: It takes courage, commitment, personal motivation and sacrifice to challenge and change any status quo but, it is not impossible.

Most of us are tired of standing still and desire a change. We can see it, feel it, dream it but, cannot make it happen. We talk about it, complain about it, make jest of it and analyze it yet, we cannot enter into it. How long more can we go like this? I am tired of the negative ones around me and I am challenging them; what about you, why don’t you challenge the ones around you?

Most people are caught up in their daily routines: they are stuck and keep stuck for years. Whenever they try to change, it feels uncomfortable hence; they go back to the status quo where they are comfortable. They take a step and miss: they run back to the comfortable arena where they feel okay. Friend, we all have to come out of our shells and dare the impossible if we must challenge our status quo. Growth is impossible without change.

Besides, some people act as if changing the status quo belongs to someone else hence; they like to point finger at others and apportion blame. This is not admired yet, it is common. In all, real change can happen if we move to the levels where we really need to go and take the steps we need to take. But, you must change your personal dispositions and take actions. Let us start with our emotions.

Our feelings play important roles in everything we do or set to do. Our emotions do hold most of us in a status quo state. Even when we are emotionally unhappy, other emotions tend to grip us stronger. Fear is one, comfort is another, pride and ego, self-doubt and even what-will-people-around-say? These emotions are setbacks hence; we need to change our emotional dispositions. Note: it takes determination, self-control, attitude and a good sense of prioritizing.

Our social life also plays key roles in our strife to challenge any status quo. Friends, family, well-wishers, neighbors and co-workers all participate in this. Some people in our lives do hold us back: intentionally or unintentionally. Therefore, we need to continually assess our social interactions and relationships periodically to know which is moving us forward the ones holding us back. We need results.

Finally, our core beliefs matter. Our life philosophy matters. How you approach change depends on how you view continuous learning, self-worth, service, selflessness and other good values. In many ways, it depends on how you perceive life:  static or dynamic.

Challenging your status quo is not forgoing key principles. Rather, it is bringing focus and action together for a common good. It means defining your values, principles, and philosophies to drive your life in a purposeful way that will positively affect the lives of people around you and maybe, write your name in the books of time. Start early according to the season of life you are in.

Changing any status quo takes time but it’s mostly worthwhile. Changing patterns and traditions always attract new opportunities. The earlier you start is mostly best for all of us. Personally, I love challenging negative status quo: I love and appreciate the man that invented the internet. He changed the status quo of global communication and now the world is much smaller for it.

Friend, what status would you want to change in your life? Dare to challenge it and believe you can do it. And if you need help, get help from your mentor, a mastermind group, a counsellor, a consultant or, send me a mail; I’d be glad to help.
